Thursday in Room 14

Wow. What a busy day we had today. First our literacy (see previous post about neighbourhood maps). Other activities we do in literacy time include independent writing, reading responses, spelling practise, reading or writing workshops with Hilary, handwriting, VCOP tasks. It is a busy time.

There was some amazing self-management after morning tea. When I came in people had their basic facts goals out and were checking if they had to go to a workshop. Awesome work! While I took workshops the students were playing maths games to support their basic facts learning, doing basic facts worksheets, mathletics, prototec or working in pairs and small groups to do measurement problem solving.

Because the sun was shining and as part of our exploration of Belonging to Brooklyn, we took our seed books down to the orchard before lunch and did some drawing and observations. It was so lovely.

This afternoon after making lots of noise with our Houses (Go Barrett!), we kept working on our stop motion movies. We got some story boarding done, worked on our backgrounds and our play dough models.

Today we are drawing our neighbourhood maps in our Seed books. This is going to provide us with ideas for our writing as well as thinking about how we belong to Brooklyn.

We are going to make some stop motion movies that show our understanding of what belonging is. We have started by brainstorming ideas and are now making some play dough models that represent belonging. As we do this, we are learning a lot about how to collaborate positively. We talked about how we share ideas and what we say if we don't agree with each other.
