Te wiki o te reo Maori
It is Te wiki o te reo so Brooklyn School kicked things off with a special hui. There was a game show, skits and lots of waiata.
Using connectives in our writing
Today we learned about simple, compound and complex sentences.
A sentence must have a subject, a verb, and a complete thought. We can use special connectives to create compound (FANBOYS) or complex (AAWIBUSS) sentences.
Simple: Daniel eats.
Compound: Daniel eats food and he drinks water.
Complex: While Daniel eats his food, he plays on his computer.

Fraction-o-rama
Today we had a fraction-o-rama. Which is just a fancy word for some fraction activities!
We made fairy bread and had to make halves, quarters, eighths, thirds and sixths (then we ate it of course).
We also looked at measurement and had to work out 1/5 of a metre, 4/5 of a metre and more. Lots of hands on fraction fun with some good thinking as well.

Using multi link cubes we had to create structures that had 20 blocks with 1/2 blue, 1/4 green, 15 blocks with 1/3 red, 2/3 green etc.
We had to work out fractions of $ amounts such as 1/4 of $80
We looked at time and had to work out what is 1/5 of a minute and what is 4/12 of an hour. We had stopwatches that we had to try at stop at 12 seconds.
Fraction fish was another activity where they used circles and cut out fractions then arranged them into a fish mural.

Architect visit
Today we had Lili's dad Greg give up his time to come and share with us about what he does as an architect.
It was really interesting to learn about the process of designing buildings. Room 14 then had to design their dream houses.
Here are some of our creations:
Thanks for spending some time with us Greg!
